Things to Do in Lexington, MA

Lexington is the spot where the Revolutionary War actually started — the April 19, 1775 skirmish on the town green is the reason ‘the shot heard round the world’ is in every American history textbook. Today it’s a town of 34,000 known for top-five schools, strong town meeting government, and a downtown that still feels intentional.

What Locals Love About Lexington

Lexington Battle Green

The triangle of grass in the center of town where the British Regulars met the Lexington militia at dawn. Free guided tours run from spring through fall, plus the famous Patriots Day reenactment at 5:30am every April 19th.

Minute Man National Historical Park

Lexington shares this 1,000-acre park with Lincoln and Concord, tracing the Battle Road that the British retreated along. The trail is hikeable from end to end and hits the original North Bridge in Concord.

Lexington Center & Munroe Tavern

The downtown is small but dense — bookstores, cafes, the Depot, and Munroe Tavern (a 1735 inn the British used as their hospital after the battle, now a museum).

Wilson Farm

A working farm dating to 1884 still in the Wilson family. The farm store on Pleasant Street has produce, prepared foods, and one of the better cider donut operations in the state in fall.

Whipple Hill

Trail network shared with Winchester. Less crowded than Minute Man park, with rocky New England-style trails and a summit view east.

Discovery Day

The town’s biggest civic event, held the last Saturday in May since 1968 — sidewalk sales, food, and a giant kid-focused fair on the Battle Green.

Plumbing & Heating in Lexington

Lexington’s housing stock skews older and bigger than its neighbors — center-hall colonials with finished basements and multiple bath additions. We see a lot of pinhole copper leaks and aging boiler systems in the 1950s-1970s era homes.
